CCW Classes

Are you interested in getting your Ohio Concealed Handgun License (CHL), also known as a concealed carry permit or CCW? Vance Outdoors offers students the chance to learn from true professionals in both the classroom and the shooting range, all within the same facility.

CCW classes are held at our Indoor Shooting Range and Training Center in Obetz, Ohio. Sign up online, or at one of our five store locations.

Weekday CCW Classes

The Weekday CCW Class takes place over two consecutive evenings. The first day consist entirely of classroom time. Students will then train on the shooting range on the second day.

  • Time: 5 p.m. to 9pm (Wednesday & Thursday)

The Saturday CCW class consists of 6 hours of classroom training, followed by range time.

CCW Classroom

Learn your skills in the classroom

Students in the CCW Class will experience a mix of lessons and discussions, while getting a chance to be hands-on with the firearms they're learning about. Whether or not you're an experienced shooter or if you're just getting started, you're certain to learn something new in the Vance Outdoors CCW Class.

The Vance Outdoors CCW Class is run by skilled instructors with knowledge and experience in concealed handgun techniques. All of our instructors are certified by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and/or the Ohio Peace Officer's Training Commission (OPOTA).

Gun Range Targets

Practice your skills

Put your classroom experience to use on Ohio's most advanced indoor shooting range. Students will start out by with gun handling instruction the proceed to the firing range. Students are expected to exercise the basic fundamentals and safe gun handling learned from the classroom session.

Topics covered in the classroom

A practical foundation for safe concealed carry.

  • Basic fundamentals and safety of handguns and ammunition.
  • The meaning and importance of Concealed Carry.
  • The moral and legal issues with the use of lethal force.
  • An extensive review of the Ohio Revised Code on Concealed Carry.
  • Hands on experience of proper sight picture, sight alignment, grip, and shooting stance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you sign up.

No. You are not required to bring your own handgun, but you are more than welcome to do so. One of our range rental guns will be provided at no charge to those who don't have a handgun to bring.

You must be 21 or older. If between the ages of 18–20, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to attend the Vance Outdoors CCW Class. You can read all range rules here.

Yes, a 30-minute meal break is provided for the single-day, Weekend CCW classes. You can bring your own lunch, or drive a short distance to restaurants down the road.
