Firearm Training
While Vance Outdoors is known for the sale of firearms and ammunition, we also offer classes to help educate and train you to become a knowledgeable firearm owner. We have an on-site gun range and some of the best instructors from the NRA and Ohio Peace Officer's Training Commission. Throughout this blog, I will discuss the classes we offer, and some topics covered in each.
Coming up on December 21st, we will be hosting a Self-Defense and The Legal System Class presented by USLawshield. The many facets of the legal system can be hard to navigate. And the question, "What constitutes justifiable self-defense?" can be confusing.
Get information regarding your rights from an attorney experienced in self-defense. Topics include:
- The legalities of Castle Doctrine
- When the use of deadly force is legally justified
- Where concealed carry is legal
- What to expect when law enforcement arrives
Make sure to get signed up! This class is only $10 but is free if you are a member of USLawshield.
CCW
If you are interested in obtaining your concealed carry permit or CCW in Ohio, we offer four class options to fit your schedule. Including a women's only class. During these classes, you will learn:
- The basic fundamentals and safety of handguns and ammunition
- The meaning and importance of Concealed Carry
- The moral and legal issues with use of lethal force
- Hands on experience of proper sight picture, sight alignment, grip, and shooting stance.
Concealed Carry: What you Need to Know
Ohio S.B. 215, commonly known as Ohio Constitutional Carry, allows individuals to carry a concealed firearm in Ohio without all of the licensing requirements. However, there are still restrictions and laws that apply.
With that said, the Vance Outdoors Shooting Range & Training Center has put together a course that will teach you everything you need to know about carrying a concealed firearm. We currently have two classes scheduled in January.
Firearm & Defensive Training
We have two fully equipped classrooms for specialized firearm and defensive training sessions. The state-of-the-art facility allows downrange dynamic training involving movement and the use of cover, not common indoor ranges where learning is limited to shooting between stalls. Classes include Weaponcraft Wednesday and a Basic AR Course.
Our Weaponcraft Wednesday is split up into seven weeks. During that time, you will learn the following:
- How to draw and return your handgun from the holster safely
- How to reload, and the importance of having more than one magazine
- How to handle malfunctions
- Techniques on shooting one handed
- Develop and practice techniques to identify and engage multiple threats
- Learn how to move when your threat is on the move
- Experience real-to-life drills
Checkout our range website, as we have various classes schedule for this course.
Our Basic AR Course is a 4-hour course where you will become familiarized with your AR rifle platform and safe gun handling. Additionally, you will learn:
- A brief history of the AR rifle
- Proper terms and nomenclature of the rifle
- How to disassemble and reassemble
- Differences in ammo and the purpose of each
- Basic fundamentals of getting the rifle shouldered and on target
- Different shooting positions
- How to safely load and unload the rifle
There is currently one class schedule for January 14, 2023. Sign up before all the seats are filled!
On January 4, 2023 we will host a Workshop Wednesday. Proper shooting grips, sight alignment and sight picture, proper trigger control, and how to safely load and unload your pistol will all be discussed and demonstrated.
Additionally, we offer Build Your Own AR, Medical Trauma Class, NSSF First Shots and Firearms Care & Cleaning. At this time, there are no times scheduled for these. Sign up now and be the first to receive updates on all classes and schedules for the upcoming 2023 season.
