The Honor Flight Columbus Mission:
Take America's senior Veterans to Washington DC to visit the Memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. Help them share their stories to the benefit of future generations. To celebrate and affirm their service.
Honor Flight Columbus is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring American Veterans. The organization is funded entirely by donations from several businesses, foundations, schools, and American citizens. Each year, the volunteers of this organization strive to provide our veterans the opportunity to travel to their war memorials and share their stories. Many of them never received the homecoming that they deserved when coming back home and because of that reason, Honor Flight also celebrates them and their service with the proper homecoming. Serving in World War II, the Korean War Era, the Cold War Eras, and the Vietnam War Era, these Americans deserve every bit of recognition we can offer. Because of them, we have the privilege of freedom, and are indebted to them forever.
On flight day, everyone has an early morning start often-times ending late in the evening. The preparation that goes into this day is extraordinary and there are various volunteers who work selflessly to acquire all the necessities for this flight. An important factor of the flight are the volunteers who offer to fly with our veterans. These volunteers are called Guardians. Due to the recent Covid-19 complications, every veteran and volunteer must be vaccinated. Other requirements of being a Guardian will involve pushing wheelchairs, managing physical and emotional challenges, and being responsible for additional tasks.
Every year with great pleasure, our team goes above and beyond to raise money for this honorable mission. Our company puts on the "Fill The Plane" campaign alongside a Gun Raffle and a Classic Car Cruise-In. What does this mean? It simply means we offer three ways to donate and fill the plane with veterans.
This year on April 1, 2022, we kicked off our "Fill the Plane" campaign. As of today, we have raised an astounding $105,471.09 for our veterans! During this time, we will also be selling raffle tickets for our Gun Raffle which will take place on August 13, 2022, during our Obetz Car Show.
As of last year, we are now able to host two car shows to help raise money to fill the plane. Our Classic Car Cruise-In is really something special and every year we bring you unique food trucks and the most classic of cars. We also have a live radio broadcast from Auto Smarts Radio, featuring Dan "Boots" Longenette.
